Observation-Based Play Groups
A space where children follow their own curiosity and adults practice presence, observation, and restraint. We value slow play, real connection, and the unfolding of each child’s unique path.
A space where children follow their own curiosity and adults practice presence, observation, and restraint. We value slow play, real connection, and the unfolding of each child’s unique path.
In these groups, children are free to move, explore, and play without interruption, while adults step back to watch and reflect.
We prioritize attention. Rather than following children around or turning toward conversation, we spend most of our time quietly observing—staying nearby, available, and engaged with what is actually happening.
Conversation is welcome, but remains secondary. There are natural times for connecting with other adults, and times when the focus returns fully to the children.
Children feel this. They settle more easily, stay engaged longer, and move more confidently when they are not being directed, closely managed or left to play on their own.
For many adults, this is also more enjoyable—a chance to slow down, pay attention, and experience time with their child differently.
A group for infants around 1 year old. In the warmer weather we meet at Ted Lechowicz Woods and in colder or inclement weather we meet at Party Day in Lincoln Square.
A group for children of all ages. We meet at Forest Glen Woods on Wednesdays from 10am-12pm. We meet all year round in the woods, rain or shine (except in severe weather).
